A Fresh Look for Barrhead Town Centre
If you’ve been through The Centre on Cochrane Street recently, you might have noticed things are looking a bit fresher.
We’ve just completed a clean-up and restoration project right at the heart of the town, helping to brighten up a space that’s used every day by local people.
Thanks to £3,000 of funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), we were able to bring in specialist stone cleaning to restore the monument. Years of staining, graffiti and stubborn lichen have now been carefully removed, bringing the stonework back to life. Alongside this, the large metal bench nearby has been stripped back and repainted making it a much more inviting place to sit.
It might seem like a small change, but projects like this can make a big difference. This area is a key spot in Barrhead, whether you’re meeting a friend, taking a break, having your lunch, or heading into the park. By improving how it looks and feels, we’re helping to create a town centre people can enjoy spending time in.
And this is just the beginning.
As part of our plans for the 2026–2031 BID term, we want to do more of this kind of work investing in Barrhead’s public spaces, tackling areas that need attention, and creating a cleaner, more welcoming town centre for everyone.
If we’re successful in securing another five-year term, you can expect to see more projects like this happening across Barrhead - practical improvements that make a real difference day-to-day.
We’d love to hear what you think - have you seen the changes yet?
